Diet - meh

So.. I'm on a diet.. I have been making a big effort to be really healthy.. I have lost 1kg so far.. I need to step up the exercise a bit though..

This is what I have been eating during the day

Breaky - Sultana Bran with Shape Milk

Snack - carrot and celery sticks

Lunch - Salad with Poached chicken or Steamed Vegies and a diet coke

Snack - a few pretzals or left over carrot and celery sticks..

Dinner - well it hasn't been that great, I have been out for dinner a few times over the last week).. I need to be stricter.. tonight is a tuna steak (YUM) with steamed vegies

no coffee... only green tea and water (and maybe sometimes low joule cordial).. and no booze...

I'll try and excersie at least 4 times a week as well for about an hour.. (I have been pretty slack here since I got back from holidays.. ). I'm going to walk home from the city on the days I finish work early as well (i think it will take 1hr)

I figure if I can lose at least 1kg per week I will be happy, it will all add up..

If I can lose between 5 - 10kgs I would be stoked. I inherited the slow metabolism that my mum has so its going to be tough.. but I just need to stick with it..

March = No Alcohol Month :(

I have decided that after an indulgent xmas and new year, I am going to attempt to stay off the booze for a month and see how I feel..

I started on Sunday... so far so good.

Also started a diet this week.. I am 5kgs heavier than I thought I was.. so its home-made salad for lunch.. The good thing is I haven't spent a cent at work this week. So I'm saving $$ too..

Going to Future Music on the weekend.. last big party for a while.. I'm going to lay low this year...

The song in my head at the moment

All for Believing - Missy Higgins

Pull back the shield between us, and I'll kiss you,
Drop your defenses and come, into my arms.
I'm all for believing, I'm all for believing.

I'm all for believing if you can reveal the true colours within.

I know you blanket your mind so much that I am blind, but I,
I see you've painted your soul into your guard,
I'm all for believing, I'm all for believing

I need to know just how you feel, to comfort you;
I need to find the key let me in, into your heart, to find your soul.

Pull back the shield between us, and I'll kiss you,
Drop your defenses and come, into my arms.
I'm all for believing, I'm all for believing.

I'm all for believing, if you can reveal, the true colours within,
And say you will be there for me to hold,
When the faith grows old (I'm all for believing)
And life turns cold, (I'm all for believing)
When the faith grows old, (I'm all for believing) and life turns cold.
So if you're cold I will stay, maybe fate will guide the way.
I believe in what I see and baby we were meant to be,
Just believe. Just believe. Just believe.
Trust in me.

I was looking forward to trying out the resturant to as it has just opened in my area.. and it would have been fun the 4 of us going out together... oh well save it for another night.. we can get more pissy and not have to work the next day..

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend

New Job

Day 3 of my new job, so far so good.  So many things to learn! .. They have given me my own test server (as well as my own pc).. but I don't get to go on the official training courses until march which is a bit shit.. but it will give me plenty of time to get more familiar with Solaris/ Unix as they are systems that I haven't had the opportunity to touch on much yet in my career.. Luckily I have been paired with this guy who is an absolute genius on those systems, so I'm soaking as much up from him as possible.. It also helps that he sits right next to me as well... Its all making sense though, Its just remembering all of it!

The culture of the office is really good too, they have a pool table and a foosball table and every one is dressed really casually and has a good attitude... I was told on the first day that I was over dressed (I was sitting on the fence of underdressed and ok in the eyes of my last job).. So I need to do some more shopping for some more casual clothes..

One thing I'm going to have to get used to is that the job now includes Saturdays as well (I get mondays off), which is ok.. but now I'm going to miss 1/2 of good vibes next weekend.. which is a bit annoying.. but I'm sure it will be a great day anyway!

Thats all for the moment.. not a very exciting blog.. but I don't think anyone really reads it anyway.

Cocktail De Tomate Et De Palourdes (aka Tomato Clam Cocktail)

I just got back from holidays OS and I thought I would share something interesting...

Sitting in a Bar in Canada one night, I discovered that their " National Beverage" (according to the bartender) was a mixture of Tomato and Clam Juice.. called "Clamato"

Here is a pic of the bottle just to show you that I'm not making this up.. people manufacture this stuff!..

Can you see the picture of the clam in the bottom left?.. aparantly you can drink it just as you would with a Bloody Mary.. however, Canadians call it a Bloody Ceasar. I wasn't game enough to try it..

However they redeem themselves because their Kookanee beer is great..

Moving on..... Last week of work at my old job.. I start my new job on Tuesday.. I'm really looking forward to it.. It will be a customer support role in a large IT company supporting one of their enterprise applications... I'm looking forward to all the challenges of the new role.. Its going to be a big step up for me careerwise too..

Later

Wow 2005

How quickly has this year gone.. Here are my uppers and downers (in 3d world style) for 2005

Uppers

Making some great new friends

My Partner being back in Syd

Learning so many new things at my job

Settling into our apartment

Traveling to Langkawi and going Scuba diving for the first time!

Hunter Valley wine tasting

Whale watching in Port Stephans

The Prodigy gig

The Beastie boys gig

Dexter at Slip Inn

Parklife (so many parties this year!)

Landing a great job that starts next year (2006 = new beginnings)

My best friend going to the UK (i am sad she is gone, but stoked that she is following her dreams OS - so this is an Upper and a Downer)

Downers

Horrible work hours at the start of the year

I am thankful that I don't really have many downers this year.. the main one is really work.. getting called at 2am because our systems at work had crashed for the billionth time and I was the only Admin (the other guy was on 2 months leave). I lost soo much sleep in those 2 months. Thank goodness we have everything sorted now.. but then again I am leaving  so I don't have to worry any more.

In 2006 I am going to focas more on my career and fitness, I have learnt alot about myself in 2005. I am going to save more, pay of my credit card and spend more time at home.. (less partying). Try and get my scuba license and maybe even go sky diving..

but enough of the serious stuff.. 1 day till skiing! I have now finished packing and I'm going to just finish putting songs onto my mp3 player. and then get hyped up about Fat Boy.. I boozed it up a bit last night and I'm still feeling fragile.. and I got a little sun burnt (I put heaps of sunscreen on too)..  enough rambilng I hope everyone has a great New Years tonight with whatever they do!

...So goodbye 2005 Hello 2006!

skiing and the hoff.

My best buddy got tickets to the 'hoff' show from her brother for xmas (and i gave her a colour copy of a signed pic of the hoff for her desk at work - go ebay!).. she is hoff crazy and I don't understand why.. I swear she does most of the cropping of the hoff photos that are circulating via email!

Guess who she has asked to go with her.. me.. yes me.. yay... oh and even better the tickets are in row 'A' for up close hoff action.. (can you pick up sarcasm through a blog?)

I said I would only go if we got suitiably drunk beforehand... it could be a laugh... right?!?! what have I agreed to?

On another note.. 3 days till skiing!!!  My ski gear has taken up 1/2 my suitcase... thats what sucks about packing for a winter holiday...all the gear is so bulky you cant fit much else in a suitcase..

anyhoo.. better get back to packing.. not much longer to go....

Happy New Year to everyone!

Resignation

Yikes, I just booked a meeting with my boss tomorrow to resign.. I have been offered a job that I would be stupid to pass up (more money, less hours), however I really enjoy working with the people in my company... I have been there 2 years and it is going to be really hard for me to say goodbye. But at the same time, if I pass this job up I will miss out a huge step in my career.. The difficulty I'm having is that I am resigning before Xmas which is also 3 days before I go on 5 weeks leave and right in the busiest time for our department (and my boss is under alot of stress).. I feel like I will be letting the team down. However, I am handing over my work whilst I'm away, so I guess it might not be that bad... Fingers crossed that it will go well tomorrow..  (on the up side, the team is going to the lowenbrau tomorrow night horray!)

Scratchies

It was my bday earlier this week and I recieved a envelope full of scratchies and a card from my nan (she knows I like scratchies)..

I never really win much, maybe $5 here, $2 there.. free ticket etc.. All just a bit of fun really.

So I recieve 3 x $5 cards and 6 x $1 cards..

On the first $5 card - nothin'

2nd $5 card - $8 - yay!

3rd $5 card - $5 - yay again..

Then this is what happened next...

1st $1 card - there were only 2 windows to scratch and I won $1 tickets in both

2nd $1 card - nothing

3rd $1 card - 2x $1 free tickets

4th $1 card - again 2 x $1 free tickets

5th $1 card - nothing

6th $1 card - 2x free $1 tickets..

I have never one more than once on a scratchie or on so many scratchies in 1 sitting.. i'm going to go and cash up today!

Sangria

What is it about Sangria that makes you go completly silly.. My boy and I stayed in last night (no Renassance Ball) and thought it would be fun to make our own..

(the picture is from google)

1/2 cup of brandy

1/2 cup of OJ

lime juice

Sugar

Dry red wine (fill up almost to the top)

chopped up apple (green is the bes)

lemonade (to fill up the jug)

By the end of the night we had gone through 4 jugs (we had to walk up to the shop 1/2 way through the night to buy more wine and brandy). We listened to the latest Fat Boy set from Glastonbury (is it too early to be excited about NYE??) and then boogied to the Resin Dogs (calling all dancers!). Now my head is a little fuzzy. Good times

Loving the stormy weather

Even though it is almost summer, I really enjoy the weather when the rain sets in like it has in Sydney this week, and hearing the lightning and thunder rip through the sky with such force gives me shivvers.

This week it has poured every night and tonight there was thunder and lightning again! So after the gym, I made my spagbowl and curled up on the couch listening to the sounds outside..

Don't get me wrong.. I love summer, but it feels like it has been AGES since we have had weather like this.. and since it is going to be the hottest summer ever.. we need the water too.

What a weekend!

What a fab weekend just gone..

...It all started on Friday for my Boyfriend's Birthday...

I took him on the skywalk tour that is outside at the top of centrepoint tower.. I would reccomended to anyone who is looking to do something a little bit different...
It was so beautiful to see the city from that high up (and also the sunset)! It was also a little scary standing on glass platforms looking straight down onto traffic! We are so lucky to live in such and amazing city.. we then headed to Kingsley's Steakhouse on King Street for dinner. My steak was cooked to perfection! and the waiters/waitress's were lovely. I will go back there soon for sure! To end the night we went and had some cocktails at the Shangri-la.

Saturday I had organised a friends farewell which started with a picnic under the bridge at Milsons Point 2 bottles of  champers, 5 bottles of wine and a six pack later (between 6 of us) we headed into the city for dinner at the Australian hotel in the Rocks (awesome gourmet pizza's) where we were joined by everyone else.. I met up with some other friends later and ended up getting home rather early the next morning.
Then onto a BBQ on Sunday(shitty day for one though) and then to the pub to catch up with some girlfriends.. had a few drinks and then went to bed as soon as I got home.. I'm very tired now! But it was worth it...

I hope everyone else had a fab weekend too!

xx

From Hong Kong with love - The pink sticky penis

Here is something funny that happened to me this morning..

My Workmate came back from a holiday in Hong Kong today, I had emailed him towards the end of the holiday asking him if he could bring me back something 'qwerky or strange'.... So when I came into the office today and he comes up to me and hands me this liquid-like sticky egg shaped stress ball with a yellow 'yolk' inside it.

He demonstrates that if you throw it against a hard surface, it sticks to form the shape of a fried egg.

I commented that I was pleased that he found something strange on his travels for me. "oh no" - he said, thats not what I got you... He goes off to his desk and returns with a pink sticky/squishy penis (balls and all), that can also be thrown in a similar fashion to the squishy egg. I politely leaveit in the bag (and put it in the drawer) and go downstairs to get a coffee.

On my return my collegue is demonstrating the egg  to the guy I sit next to. I throw the sticky penis at him, and he returns this look of disgust as he hands it back.. He then encourages me to throw it against the wall to see  what happens.. I stand back and throw the pink sticky penis at the wall with such force that it stick to the wall but also  begins to spurt out this clear liquid from the base.. the penis had been filled with this liquid which was now quickly  exiting all over my office and paper work... amongst all the laughter I let out a small sigh of relief because now I don't  have to keep this pink sticky penis at work.. untill my collegue reaches in to his bag of goddies, and pulls out another one.

"Thanks", I reply politely as I put it in the drawer.
