Dec. 28, 2005 - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WON'T YOU THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
Recently I have witnessed two acts of parenting that fall at two very opposite ends of the spectrum.
On Boxing Day I was visiting a lovely family who had recently moved to my area. The family includes an awesome husband, an unreal wife and the cutest, sweetest, most energetic 2 year old girl.
While standing out the front watching the young girl play around the front yard, it was decided that she had to come inside. On her way to the front door she grabbed the flower part of an agapanthus and ripped off the petals. For those of you who are not botanically inclined, this is an agapanthus

After the little one had ripped on the flowers in her travels, the flower was bent over and almost touching the pavement. With that, the mother took the girls hand and bent over to look her in the eye. The little girl's looked at the ground,
"Now Caitlin, why don't we pull flowers off?"
"Because it makes the flowers sad?"
"That's right. Do you know why that plant is bent over and touching the ground? Because its crying. You made the plant cry. What do you say to the flower?"
"Im sowi flower"
"OK. now kiss it to say sorry"
So the little girl walks over and kisses the now flowerless top of the agapanthus and says "Im sowi" again.
That's some seriously good parenting right there.
Now I mentioned two ends of the spectrum before. Yesterday while on my break I was walking through the centre where I work. As I was walking past Supre I saw a Mum take her 8 year old daughter by the hand and gesture towards the store while saying
"Sarah, this is the sort of place you should buy your clothes......."
That's some seriously BAD parenting right there!
