Taking my hat off to Transmission
I do not know about any of the other people who went to Transmission last Saturday (8 September 2007, just in case), but I would like to say that I had the time of my life, and would dub it as one of my favourite Transmission events.
To start with, there was no waiting to get inside (well, in a general sense, not necessarily for me *blushes*), and nothing beats getting into a venue and hearing great music blasting (crap to the fact I missed out on Filo and Peri!)
Marcel Woods and Scot Project were unbelievable. Sure, Marcel played pretty much the same sort of set he played at Godspeed, but I am a tech trance fiend and happily lived in de ja vu mode. And who wouldn't forgive a man who ends his set with Advance and Cherry Blossom. It was definitely a pinnacle moment in my night. Scot Project couldn't get me off the floor either, and his set provided a nice diversity of tech/hard trance.
I don't know what was going on with Public Domain. Admittedly, my expectations of their set were not high as it was, but they still managed to have me expecting too much. Apart from playing what the whole crowd wanted them to play (bass in the place, London!), it was a pretty ordinary set, one which seemd to stop after every 10 minutes. There were more silent moments and talking than there was of actual music. Dare I say that I did walk off the dancefloor during their set, and was slightly disappointed (mental note: remember to stop having expectations, even low ones!)
I am...almost ashamed to admit that I absolutely loved Brennan Hearts set. I get my moments where I just want to hear hardstyle (not because I love that genre of music, but because of the energy I get to release when I need to release it), and Brennan Heart sure did deliver. My friend sent me a message during his set to say they were planning on going, and I asked for them to give me another 5 minutes, only to meet up with them and go back down straight away to dance a little longer.
The atmosphere added to the night. I met and spoke to so many friendly people, danced with randoms, and really enjoyed hanging out with my friends. The lasers were...well, the greatest things on earth (I love my lasers), and the sound system wasn't anything to really complain about.
I didn't really like the 'intervals' they had between sets, as I was left there to jitter about in anticipation for the next set, but I think the rest of the plusses overide that small set back many times over.
I can't explain it, but there is something about Transmission that always has me enjoying myself there, without having to step out of the main arena. But the lineup for this Transmission was a great mixture of djs, and it was hard not to come out of there feeling more than satisfied, and still wanting more.
Hoorah to Transmission!!!

2006 in review, and the 2007 to be
Happy new years to all!
What a year 2006 was, and how fast it was at that!
2006 definitely saw my clubbing at a peak, and had me at all the small events, and the large events, my body and finances could allow! And indeed the events! Shout out to Sublime, and for them hosting PvD (set of the year!), Livewire, Godskitchen, Kohn Askew, Mark Norman and Cor Fijneman, Dumonde, Lab 4's final live set, and Sasha & Digweed, not to mention any other events I can't remember at this point, and all the 'normal' nights I attended.
I'm happy to have survived another year with Josh and Friends 'A Night of Trance' at my favourite location, Arq. It was with delight I got to see GTR here! Arq also allowed me to see Lange, Christopher Lawrence and Kyau and Albert, and a couple of times provided me with some nice deep trance on nights where I needed somewhere...anywhere...to go.
Speaking of Lawrence and KvA, the Trancetribe crew (visit www.trancetribe.com) collaberated with Dirty Fridays, to bring The Temple, a great solution to Sunday boredom, providing a range of upifting, tech and prog trance, with the occasional electro/funky house thrown in for good measure. Here is where I celebrated the Trancetribe 3rd birthday (I have been around almost as long as te web has been running!), and had the pleasure of seeing John Askew play for a second time at this event as well! With Trancetribe now just a supporting website rather than a event promoter, it ill be interesting to see what direction this fortnightly event takes.
Event of the year had to be the Future Music Festival - who could go wrong with AvB, Markus Schulz, Kai Tracid and Max Graham! With Ferry Corsten, Nick Warren and Sander Van Doorn on the lineup for 2007, I can see it taking out best event two years running! Other events attended and enjoyed include Godspeed White (Johan Gielen and Marcel Woods rocked!), Transmission Magic City and 10th birthday (big ups to Kamui, Fred Baker, and Yoji Biomehanika!), and Prophecy. I've probably missed a couple, but I can't be expected to remember them all on the spot!
Other small (and yet, large) nights out which deserve a mention include Gas- host of Frantic, Alphazone and Public Domain, and Cosmic Groove vs Grooveinc - Cosmic Destination @ Space, Techtronics @ Space, Ahead @ Skygarden, Sunbeats at Coogee Bay Hotel, my several visits to Wanted at the Pavillion and T2, and any other random place I happened to walk into.
I got the privelage to see Sigur Ros for the second time (after having flown to QLD to see them the year before, due to the Sydney event being sold out, and being totally blown away). All I can say is that I LOVE THESE GUYS! Their music is where I want my dreams to be every time I go to sleep. They truly rock, and I hope they come year after year after year...
Unfortunately, I only made a small effort to explore beyond my trance world, those places being Tank Nightclub (for my first 'proper' house night out), Purple Sneakers @ Abercrombie, DNB BBQ at the Clare, Greenbeats @ Petersham Bowling Club, and the Newtown Festival. All were great experiences, and hopefully I will make a better effort to get out there and check out more!
Apart from my clubbing world, I give shout out to my drinking, which helped me through 2006, especially Schmirnoff Ice (Black), Pure Blonde, and Cascade Blonde! And thank you Pavillion Hotel for giving me $10 jugs of my beloved Cascade Blonde.
Work has been great, with Perpetual (www.perpetual.com.au) moving to a new building in the City CBD, my workload taking a gigantic leap, and things just looking up in general! Include my joining of our Volleyball, indoor and outdoor footbal team, and you have a truly dedicated workaholic!
Other areas worth a mention include my good effort to exercise more, the new friends I have met (and watching all of my friendships either getting stronger, or slowly distancing), my dedicated time towards writing reviews for itm (www.inthmix.com.au), helping to promote the Sydney Dance clubbing scene, and two little nephews coming into the world.
2007 sees less clubbing, as I begin to become serious about saving up for my 2009 plans to move to England. However, there will still be clubbing, and drinking, and exercising, and friend stuff! Hopefully this year will see me at least attempting my first production track, which I have dreamed about for a while now. I will be moving out from my current place into one on my own, and progressing even further within my position at work. I will also, unfortunately, be losing two close friends as they move to QLD (which I try not to think about).
There is no doubt alot more to be said, but I'm sure we get the point!
And now, a big F*$% off to 2006, and bring on 2007!

Yoshi 'A Night of Trance Anthems cd' - a review by an anonymous friend (no, not me)
This CD was conceived and created as a tribute to Sydney’s uplifting and otherwise trance institution, A Night Of Trance. This series of parties grew out of humble beginnings back in September 2003 at the old Palladium, via the notorious Icebox, and into it’s current home in one of Sydney’s biggest clubs, Arq. What started off as a party concentrating purely on uplifting and melodic flavours, morphed into a contrivance encompassing a multitude of trance flavours, from mellow and progressive, via melodic and euphoric, to tech, harder edged and hard trance.
This CD covers the driving and uplifting facets of A Night Of Trance, however it particularly concentrates on the kind of tougher beats and bass lines that DJ Yoshi, the mixmaster responsible for the compilation and Sydney’s hard dance/hard trance star, is most known for.
Yoshi needs no introduction. Behind him are many years of experience behind the decks, stacks of CD releases and own tunes, most recent of which are featured on his self-produced album, “Caught in the Rhythm”, and several of which are borrowed for A Night Of Trance Anthems.
Two thirds of this CD pays homage to the styles that Yoshi owes his reputation to. Joining his own creations, are those by hard dance heavy-weights Steve Hill, Phil York, Dark By Design, Masif DJs and PHATT.
Entire album is a 140bmp ball of energy, lifting off with a punchy uplifting number by Psychologica, then slightly mellowing into the serene “It is Cold” by tyDi.
Whilst powerful, emotive melodies permeate the compilation throughout, none are more moving than the following “All My Life” by Zander, [p.e.g.]’s “Aftermath” and “Under The Sea” by Static Blue.
Lost Lagoon serves as a gateway between the uplifting and hard – from this tune on melodies are supplemented by the bass, drive and energy that hard dance is so well known for.
Two of the tunes resurrect uplifting classics – “Calling Your Name” and “Everyday” as harder-edged incarnates by Neon Lights and Masif DJ’s respectively.
Overall, this is a quality driving, punchy, bassey, energy fuelled compilation that is true to Yoshi’s name and reputation, and represents some of the range of styles that A Night Of Trance is known for.

Sasha and Digweed...TOGETHER AGAIN!!!
To put it simply, Sasha and Digweed were truly amazing.
I went into the night, a bit sceptical, as my experiences of seeing them play separately last year had left me slightly disappointed, and not so sure about how they would perform together.
And It's a good thing I have that thing called 'faith' in terms of the people who produce and dj the music I love.
For five hours I was captivated in the whole Sasha and Digweed experience - although it can't be as good as when they use to play together 5 years ago, I at least got to see a part of what others got to see back in the past.
I accepted the Ableton! All my disapproving of its use in a nightclub was kicked under the bed, as I enjoyed hearing track after track and not caring what it was played on! The tracks were soooo good - a bunch of oldies and n00bies, giving the entire set a true 'GU' feeling.
And sure, the place was packed, and I don't remember the last time I sweated so much from all the dancing, but I just didn't care - to be enticed track after track - to dance for pretty much the whole five hours, to see two of dance's legends up on stage, to be with people who loved them as much as I did...unbelievable. My expectations were definitely an understatement of what turned out to be a great night.
I didn't want them to stop playing, but I have those five hours stored up in that little memory of mine, and I was happy to travel to a friend's place afterwards and go on a 6(or so) hour journey of mixing track after track of wonderful tunes, to keep that smile on my face (and to give my friend a reason to forget she didn't go *wink*).
I hope that Sasha and Digweed realise what they truly being to the crowdwhen they play together, and consider doing so again within the next five years!
*enters into lala land*

A Night of Trance (Warning: Slightly Long)
If you are reading this it is either because you are a regular reader of my occasional entries, or you have been directed here from my recent review on the above. Either way, it was a pain in the backside to heavily cut down on what I could put into my review, so I decided to add a little (or alot) more into my blog.
Let me say first ad foremost that I had the time of my life It had the music I absolutely love - uplifting, tech and progressive, and the neon theme was the greatest idea! (two thumbs up to you know who for the idea). The set up just looked truly amazing.
And now my slightly more broad opinion on the djs (the ones I listened to anyway).
Ruby - comparing his set to last anot, there was a huge improvement. My theory is that his style of trance is more suited for an opening set, as it is more relaxed and the tracks lack any realy 'euphoric' peak. Although I'm not a big fan of Ruby, I was overly impressed.
Karvan and Condivi - Not that I have a problem with their previous live performances (I love them!), I was just so happy to hear them play good old uplifting like they did whn they first started out. I was just disappointed I didn't get to catch more of their set.
Jayde & Marishka - I think my review says it all. I have never seen two people work so well together (although that could change once I see Sasha and Digwee, heheheh). They always know the right tracks to play, and they make djing look like so much fun! If you haven't checked these two out, I suggest you hurry up and do so! I don't claim to be a fan of theirs for no reason
Patrik Carrera vs Selby - Adolescent vs toddler. Whilst they are both good djs in their own right, I found their skills/experience to be a bit conflicting. Both times I have seen Selby play, he has been excellent in delivering his anthems. Patrik seems to have a more experimentive mind behind the decks, and a more daring track selection. Selby is great for a newcomer though, and it was about time I saw Patrik play a set which was not an opening one! He has so much more t offer when he plays further into the night, and this should be considered when booking him for future events.
Oliver Leighs and Paul Doran - Nothing much more to add here! Their set was up there with my favourites of the night. It took me back to Frantic's 5th birthday, where the music was absolutely perfect! It's hard to find quality trance like this!
Luke Sykes - Dammit I didn't catch all of his set! He is someone I can always rely on to play a great progressive trance track. This guy is made for opening sets, as he gets the crowd excited as he builds on his set. His dj skills have improved so much from when he first started (and I have the demo cd to prove it!)
Amo - Missed him last time, saw him this time, and want more! What a great set by this newcomer! The only thing I can add to my review is 'wow'. Oh, and thanks for the promo cd Amo! Apart from the st00pid track splits, it's great! Especially loved Headstrong 'show me the love', Interstate 'Remember Me' and Starline 'Blue Waves'.
Dutch - Another man who played a great set! I could have kissed him for playing Saltwater 'The Legacy'! There was no time to take a breather in his set, and I found myself jumping repetively to hands in the air, mimicking the melody in the breakdown.
Digital Pimp - This man has a great choice in track selection. Just when I think I have heard the best track of his set, he pulls out another one even better! The guy doesn't go half bad for a Candaian And not bad for someone who had the flu! Good choice to have him play twice.
Ange - With so much to bring to the stage, I found her set to be a little generic. To look at it from a JAFP point of view, it was a perfect set, and the dancing crowd will prove that. I just feel she left her beat mixing too late in her tracks, and with uplifting music half the fun is challenging the melody and the beat. The bass also failed when it was needed most (although I'm going toassume it was the fault of the sound system). Her set actually reminded me of a Trance nation cd compilation by Judge Jules (take your pick which one).
Apart from that, it was great to see all the familiar faces. I was excited to see some people, and if I stood with you for more than 5 minutes for a conversation, I was enjoying it! And, although this was not my favourite anot event (Steve Helstrip [both times] ftw!), it was without a doubt one of the best anot events held. Hats off to the JAFP crew for all their dedication and effort put into these events - I don't know what I would get up to without them.
Bring on the next one!
(p.s. not proof read, so my apologies for any spelling mistakes...yes, I am usually pedantic like that ;) )

Another day but no million dollars
Here is to the...I think third weekend in a row to which I have been pretty darn sick. It's just typical too that you can spend the entire weekend trying to get better (excluding a couple of random appearances at a couple of events) only for your health to diminish again by being back at work
Big meh.
Thought of the day: are we all doomed to being vulnerable to an accent? I go weak every time I hear an english accent. And I won't deny it - there is nothing spectacular about an english accent. There is probably hotter out there...French perhaps? (*giggles at Danny Bhoy and his jokes on the French...* 'I just play zis triangle' heheheh). There is this new(ish) guy at work, and although he ain't half bad, I'm more fascinated with his accent. And of course, it only makes me more excited (for lack of better word) when I hear him talk about football, league, etc. What a typical association.
I also have a crazy interest in the German accent, but that one goes a little bit more deeper
On the topic of nationalities and sport, go the All Blacks for beating Ireland (in what had to be one of the most boring games I have watched) and blast the sharks for beating the eagles!
And now on a totally different note, here is a complication I came over the week just gone: how does one balance determination with impatience and a short attention span? I was given a project to complete for work (a project to which I came up with to help improve the services within our team) only to find myself completely over it one week into it. And I don't know - perhaps it's the repetition I cannot stand, or even the fact that I never wanted to iplement the idea (only suggest it), or perhaps I am really just that impatient.
So I thought about it, and here is it in a nutshell:
When it matters most life moves too slow (except when I'm clubbing - then it moves waaayyyyy to fast). I'm a 'wham bam' typa gal, and I live in a 'ladee-da' environment. I love a challenge, but I don't want to have to wait four weeks for it. The funniest part too is that the one thing I am most determined to do I have set a three year preparation period to achieve it. THREE YEARS! And why three years? Because, just like this ladee-da environment, financial miracles happen even slower.
That, and the fact I like shiny objects.
p.s. On the topic of impatience, if anyone knows what happens in the last episodes of Lost, please share - I don't mind the ending being ruined (and will still watch it afterwards all the same, only much happier) and am only too happy to know

(Insert relevant title for blog here)
Life has been a serious one lately. So time to sparkle it up a bit!
It's not quite CBA, but I still find this to be of somewhat delight to read (random email received today):
And Novril. buckeye belong And that was enough.
Not great, and there were plenty of details still to be worked out, but it looked okay. Down and down and down. I have been. it looks swollen. It had been devilish hot; she remembered that well enough. He hitched air into his lungs and closed his eyes " He had no idea what was going to come out or if anything really was. Even the stupidest swain could grasp the symbolism — the hero had been saved by God. bobbin
I also learnt from Spicks and Specks last night that the old tune by Mr Berry 'Louie Louie' has an alleged 'obscene' message within the lyrics. Meaning, a simple song about a chick really means hot raunchy and naughty sex. It makes you wonder what type of people are these accusers who came up with that interpretation.
As for the weekend, all is set - Subbies Friday, followed by Transmission Saturday. Excited? Friday yes...Saturday will be determined on the night.
And on that note, hooray to the Blues in a victorious match (albeit a rather disappointing match), and come on the Socceroos tonight!!!

*Yawn*
So, it's a Saturday night and I am bored out of my brains. How much I would love to go clubbing, but I decided (and I guess in the end, rightfully) to dedicate the weekend to my mum.
Out west for the weekend, I find myself wishing I was clubbing! I have all this dance energy (to which is usually used every weekend but this one!) and the furthest it is going is to type this blog entry.
My parents wanted to go to Panthers - wtf??? Don't get me wrong - I have no issues with my friends out here, but I really did not want to run into anybody in case I was invited to a place where they would all piss up and I would...well, I wouldn't, as I thought there would be no use for bringing it (heheheh and yet d'oh!), and so would be required to sit there and talk about the old school days (which were 4 years ago - how long are you allowed to talk about the same school memories for???). Upon arriving though, I ran into someone at the shops, who asked me what I was doing - alot of stuttering came out before I said I was just here to see the mumskies.
I always get reminded of why I moved out of the west (although, my reasoning is a personal point of view, which may contrast to anothers opinion of the west *waves to westie friends*)
*sigh* I just wish I was back in the city clubbing. It's a strange case of being so use to going clubbing every weekend that it makes a huge difference the moment I stop. I didn't even know stopping was possible, and a part of me wishes it wasn't. Not even downloading a shyteload worth of tracks and live sets can fill the clubbing void :(
(note: I have no intention of clubbing out west - last time I did it was just so...wrong).
Hopefully some music shopping tomorrow will brighten me up a bit.
Speaking of which, I depart listing my favourite track of the moment:
Street Angels - Another Day (Club Mix). Ferry Corsten mixed this on his Mixmag cd for the month - I hagve fallen in temporary lust with the track! It's nothing o0ober extreme, but the vocals and melody work really well together.
And now, exit stage left...to the world that is boredom. I hope everyone else is out having fun clubbing! *pouts*

Don't push me, push a push pop!
This week, seeing the CBA stories have magically vanished, I have dedicated my week to Push Pops.
Does anyone remember these?
I actually had a random mission looking for them on Monday. Either I looked in the wrong places, or they are not as common as they use to be, as I did not have any luck. However, sadness was overcome as I went to trusty old Randwick and they had a small bunch of them! 8 push pops later and I'm a happy chappy :)
The flavours of them are so unique - if Chuppa Chups made these flavours I would not have made such an effort to look for the pops - blue raspberry watermelon flavour ftw!!!
So I then find a random site about Push Pops, and they ask about your childhood memories with the lolly. I thought 'what the hey' and decided to type one up on this weeks findings anyway - it's a story worth sharing ;)
Maybe next week I should grab a bunch of those whistle lollipops...
And now my happiness out in the open, Happy mothers day mums!

I'm loving the CBA!!!
So, I just get into work this morning to find a few emails from my story tellers. Everything below is in the order they were received.
This is just fantastic!!!

Just Stuff
This week is proving to be a complex week.
Last night saw me running around the city to save a friends job today (results are still pending too). I like it when saving them means being bad too
Apart from that, my work partner is away, which means I am running a two mans show, and I also have a couple of projects due, and also monthly reports to get out.
I am in the process of getting my resume together to apply for a couple of jobs, which all mean more pay and back in the sort of industry I like (i.e. Mortgages). A pain in the behind though to find time to work on it, and then find the best way to break it to my managers, who seem to think everyone in our team is 'hunky dorey' *rolls eyes and frowns*
On a plus though, I am really looking forward to A Night of Trance this Friday night!!! The blue theme works out well, as we are doing the 'shave and colour your hair for cancer' fundraiser, so double bonus with helping charity AND having my hair sprayed blue for anot!!!
And how much I love my uplifting! I'm really looking forward to Jayde and Marishka's set (they are the greatest uplifting up and comers in Sydney!) and also what new mashes/remixes Karvan and Condivi have to offer.
The crowd there is also amazing, and it will be great to see some people I haven't seen in a while
Funny story - I happened to lose my ID card last week. Lucky for me, I didn't do any clubbing last weekend however, it still didn't change the fact I didn't have it! Long story short though, it was in my possession again this morning - it seems I forget that I need to place it back into my wallet after taking it out - how could I forget that!
And now back to the realms of work. At least with all the work it is making the days go faster - Tuesday already!!!!
Come one Friday!!!!

Vanessa needs
I was given an email earlier today. I was instructed to go to the google search engine and type in my name, followed by 'needs'
So, typing in 'Vanessa needs', one of the links that came up was:
'Vanessa needs to get her alcoholic mother into detox, or to chase down another Krispy Kreme with another licorice Twizzler'
*insert weebl voice* "How bizarre"
I also came about Vanessa Amorosi lyrics *shudders*
The best email I have been sent recently, is a link to a website where you help a drunk german man get home:
http://mis-group.com/funny/drunk/help_the_drunk_get_home.php
I have lost myself on this game time and time again!
Try it out if you get a moment
Meanwhile, first day back after the my long weekend, and the rain is a sign I should have made it longer...Nevertheless, work has been prosperous and can only get better from here!
Outties for now!

Five day weekend!
I don't really have much to say, except today launches my second big weekend in a row (I had to have it - Who goes to work on a Monday, only to have Tuesday off? And while I'm at it, why not take off Friday to really make it something).
This weekend is dedicated to Alphazone. I will be looking forward to watching them...yet again. Last time they were at Progress, they played a second set upstairs and I was trying to get them to dance! It sorta worked...
Meh - I'm actually content to leave the blog entry here for now. I will be back late next week (hopefully) with some more nonsense!
Peace out,
Nez.

Concern of a Clubber
After one huge weekend, I am surprisingly okay and ready for the next one (gogo coming five day weekend!)
I have just a little mini gripe about a certain event that I went to over the weekend. Now, the music was great - the djs did not let me down, as I pretty much danced the whole night. The venue itself too wasn't too bad either - the bar was pretty cool, the outside area was nice, there was ample seating and the setup of the place in general was pleasant.
However, I stand my grounds when I say this place is NOT made for a nightclub. Either that, or there was no effort to make it feel anything more than just a suave place to drink and hang out with friends listening to music.
I mean, yeah the music WAS good. However, the sound system was pathetic. For most of the night I was deprived of some quality bass (which you want to hear when you listen to hard trance and the likes), which was replaced with a muffled sound. One of the speakers too actually fell onto the turntables twice - I feel sorry for the Dj who's record it landed on (not to mention the turntable!).
And, although lighting isn't everything, the effort in this department was slightly poor too. It felt as though I was dancing in dakness the whole night.
It is so rare that I have an issue with a venue, but I really hope that if there are any future events at this certain place, they at least put more effort into the sound and lighting. I'll even compromise the dancing on carpet if these two areas were improved!
But enough of that.
Now to turn this into something positive though....mmmmmmmmmm, Livewire *drools*

And we're off!
So...I've decided to make use of this blog, today of all days as Thursday being the last day of the week, it seems to be dragging and I'm not as busy at work as what I thought I would be.
Preparing myself for Wanted's first birthday tonight. Should be wiggletastic! And, I've been informed of face painting...*insert excitement*
Oh, and birthday celebrations for Miss Marishka, yay!
My weekend also encompasses Livewire (Holden, Seaman, and Pappa ftw! ftw!), and Ahead, not to mention an apartment to myself this weekend as the boys live with are both heading up to QLD for the weekend.
o0oh! I went to watch Sigur Ros last night. For those who do not know them, they are rock/alternative group from Iceland.

In case anyone wants to know. They are my favourite musicians of all time! I saw them last year up in Fortitude Valley. The Qld crowd were much better, and the Tivoli is an awesome place for an event, but seeing them in good ol' Sydney was great, and their music did not disappoint.
But now, back to work...*grumbles made up words in disatisfaction*
Any future posts on here will be of random sentences, and maybe some brief reviews of my weekends
